Scheduled Eco-Travel Tours
 

NJAS tours feature:

  • Small group size (maximum 10 on most trips)
  • Leader to participant ratio of 1:5 or better on domestic tours
  • Window seats for all participants on most domestic tours

We offer tours with a variety of paces and goals:

  • Relaxed vacations with nature
  • General ecology exploring a diversity of animal and plant groups, as well as geology
  • General ecology with a focus on birdlife
  • Intensive birding adventures

NORTH CAROLINA'S OUTER BANKS: Seabirds and Swamp Warblers
May 28 - June 5, 2008

Southeastern Virginia and coastal North Carolina conjure up images of windswept barrier islands and vast swamp forests.  This "surf and turf" tour will visit famed locations like the Great Dismal Swamp and Cape Hattaras National Seashore.

NEWFOUNDLAND: Geology, Seabirds and Natural History
June 22 - July 1, 2008

ALBERTA:  The Great Canadian Rockies Scenic Nature Tour
July 10 - 19, 2008

One of North America's most spectacular regions, the Canadian Rockies in Alberta and British Columbia are also rich in plant and animal life.  This is a photographer's dream with glorious panoramas of majestic mountains, pristine lakes, waterfalls and glaciers.

UTAH & IDAHO:  The Great Salt Lake, Uinta Mountains and Snake River Valley
August 4 - 12, 2008

Enjoy spectacular mountain scenery, huge numbers of water- and shorebirds, and western montane species.  Visit Antelope Island State Park, Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, the Uinta Mountains, Dinosaur National Monument and the Snake River Valley.

WILDLIFE AND ECOLOGY OF THE GREATER YELLOWSTONE ECOSYSTEM
September 6 - September 14, 2008

The GYE is considered one of the last intact temperate ecosystems on earth.  Our tour will explore this wildlife paradise after the summer crowds depart.  Visit both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in a search for charismatic mega-fauna.  (Note:  For the report from our September, 2007 tour, click here.)

COSTA RICA JOURNEY
October 27 - November 6, 2008

Our goals will be to visit many different habitats and to search for birds and other wildlife while we learn about tropical ecology and conservation.  This autumn tour explores the lowlands and lower slopes of the Caribbean and mountain cloud forests around active volcanoes.  (Photo courtesy Mark S. BOSQUE DEL APACHE, NEW MEXICO
November 15 - 23, 2008

Come see why this is hailed as one of the nation's premier National Wildlife Refuges!  Many wildlife photographers consider it to be one of the most photogenic places in the country.

ECUADOR
February 7 - 21, 2009

Imagine a place where the richest rain forest on earth is almost adjacent to snowcapped mountains.  The journey begins in the Amazon rain forest and continues on both slopes of the Andes.

KLAMATH BASIN/NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
March 21 - 31, 2009

Klamath Basin is one of North America's great early spring staging areas for waterfowl.  The great complex of Sacramento area NWRs, majestic Mount Shasta and the magnificent northern California coast will also be explored.
