An adult RED-NECKED STINT was found at Two Mile Landing in Cape May Aug 30; no reports since.

The immature WHITE IBIS continues in the NJ Meadowlands, most recently observed Aug 30. From the parking lot at the Dekorte Center, take the Saw Mill Creek trail east towards the turnpike and the wooden bridge: look for the bird here at low tide.

The Johnson Sod Farm along the Salem/Cumberland County border hosted 2 UPLAND SANDPIPERS and 4 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS Sep 1.

Brigantine NWR sightings this week included 22 species of shorebirds on Aug 30 including 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS in the east pool along the north dike, 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 2 MARBLED GODWITS all in the west pool, 7 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS at the dog- leg, WILSON'S PHALAROPE and 4-5 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES in the west pool- south dike. The HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and WILSON'S PHALAROPE were all seen again Aug 31. The 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were still present Sep 1. Other birds noted at Brig this week were the continuing AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, 2 CATTLE EGRETS, a report of a GOLDEN EAGLE Sep 3, 12 CASPIAN TERNS, 6 BLACK TERNS, and a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER along the upland portion of the wildlife drive Aug 30.

An unseasonable VESPER SPARROW was detected at Franklin Parker Preserve in Burlington County Sep 4.

Sandy Hook reports this week were of an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER on the beach at the end of the fisherman's trail Aug 28, 1-2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS the salt ponds Aug 28-Sep 3, up to 4 BLACK TERNS among the large COMMON TERN flock at the north end, single OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS near the hawkwatch Aug 31, and along Raccoon Alley Sep 2; and 2-3 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS Aug 31. Sixteen species of warblers were noted this week including 2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS Aug 31 along the FIsherman's Trail, WORM-EATING WARBLER Sep 1, 2 TENNESSEE WARBLERS and MOURNING WARBLER along the bike path Sep 2; and 2 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS Sep 3. In Sussex County an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was noted on the sod fields on Gibbs Rd. in Allamuchy, near the "T" intersection where Gibbs meets Long Bridge Rd (Rte 615). Note that DeLorme incorrectly labels this stretch of Long Bridge Rd as Shades of Death Rd: use the Rte 615 signs.

The 5th Annual New Jersey Meadowlands Festival of Birding will take place on Sep 13-14. The Meadowlands contains over 8,000 acres of valuable wetland habitat and is home to over 280 bird species. The event is comprised of two days of activities for all experience levels including walks, eco-cruises, canoe paddles, indoor workshops, and presentations; all led by some of the area's most accomplished and respected birders. This year's keynote speaker is Jonathan Trouern- Trend, a Sergeant First Class in a U.S. National Guard Unit stationed in Iraq in 2005. His online journal about birds in war-torn Iraq has been compiled in a small book "Birding Babylon."
