BACKYARD HABITAT PLANT SWAP
Saturday, September 27
9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Now is the perfect time to thin out your backyard habitats!
Pot up those extra perennials and bring them to the swap.
You’ll be sharing some of this year’s garden successes with
other habitat gardeners and benefiting schoolyard habitats
throughout Cape May County. Bring at least three plants: two
for the swap and one for the Monarch Schoolyard Habitat
Connection. For each additional plant you bring, get a
ticket redeemable for one free plant.
• Schools need tools for use in maintaining their gardens.
So if you have any garden tools to donate to this worthy
cause, it would be much appreciated!
• Got seeds? Bring them, too – in labeled envelopes. They
count as one plant.
• No plants to swap? Still come! Plants will be $2 each,
limit three per person.
• Got questions? The “Backyard Habitat Advisors” will be on
hand to help you with plant selection, wildlife gardening
questions, and lots of resources.
• Don’t know what to bring? See our plant lists at
www.njaudubon.org, “World of Backyard Habitat” under quick
links at bottom of page, then go to “Recommended Nectar
Plants” in left column.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to start or expand your
garden and help in educating kids about the wonders of
habitat gardening.
Plants may be dropped off on Friday, September 26, before
3:00 p.m., and you will be given a credit voucher to use on
your return on Saturday.

During this lecture at the nature center, catch the
excitement of deep sea fishing in Cape May, an adventure
that takes you to the edge of the Continental Shelf about
sixty-five miles from port. The waters there are hundreds of
feet deep, and have the warmth of the Gulf Stream from the
south, making them the ideal home of many species of smaller
baitfish, as well as our target – the BIG game species:
shark, marlin, tuna, swordfish, dolphin, and wahoo.
“Historic Cape May offers one of the finest marine
facilities in the Northeast – just minutes from the ocean,
Delaware Bay, and the Intercoastal Waterway,” according to
our instructor, Charlie Langan, charter agent of South
Jersey Marina. Learn skills and techniques necessary for a
uniquely personal, and successful, fishing experience. Space
is limited; preregistration is recommended.
Cost: $8 members, $10 nonmembers.

Saturday, November 15: “How to Create a Wildflower Meadow
and Pond”
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
